If you live in or are a frequent visitor to the south end of Wallingford, you’ve probably noticed that the old Salvation Army building by Walgreen’s has a new tenant. One of our favorite charitable organizations, Habitat For Humanity, has recently opened a new ReStore in the location, the sixth such store in Connecticut.
When they first opened they had limited hours of operation, but they are now open five days a week, Tuesday through Saturday, from 10AM to 4PM. They are planning a Grand Opening for sometime in September and are also contemplating expanding their hours at that time to accommodate weekend and evening shoppers and closing on one day a week.
Set up to look like a typical furniture store, there are couches, tables and appliances arranged throughout the space. All items are gently used and have been donated by local residents. Donations can be dropped off at the Wallingford store any time they’re open, rather than having to go into New Haven to drop them off. Among the items being sold are appliances, furniture, doors, windows, cabinets, tools, vanities and tubs. For a complete list of accepted items, please check the Habitat For Humanity web site.
Sales have been brisk, and proceeds go to assist Habitat For Humanity of Greater New Haven in their building projects. If you’re in the area and looking for that special piece to finish off a room, stop in and see what’s available. The prices are good and you’ll be supporting a local business and a great organization that helps many people.
