Yesterday was a beautiful, sunny day in Wallingford for most of us. However, for 22 of our fellow residents, the day was far from pleasant. A fire at a three family home on South Whittlesey Avenue which started just before 8AM Friday morning caused extensive damage to the third floor and the residents of all three apartments are now without a place to stay and have lost much, if not all, of their belongings.
To assist our Wallingford brothers and sisters who are affected by this tragedy, Most Holy Trinity Church and SCOW (Spanish Community of Wallingford) will host a clothing drive for the affected families, TODAY Saturday from 4-8 p.m. Donations of restaurant and retail gift cards are welcome, as well as wearable clothing for adults and children (ages elementary, middle and high school). Donations will be accepted between 4-8 p.m. Behind the church located at 84 Colony Road.
In addition, after the clothing drive has ended, Harriman Real Estate LLC will be a drop-off point for anyone who would like to make a donation of a gift card to help these people who are in so much need at this time. Our goal is to create three gift baskets like the one pictured below to donate to the displaced families If you would like to make a donation to help these families in need get back on their feet, please come by our office at 116 Center Street in Wallingford and leave your donation at the front desk. Our office hours are Monday –Friday from 9am to 6pm, and 10am to 2pm on the weekend. After business hours you may leave any gift card donations in our outside mailbox to the left of our entrance.
Fortunately, the WFD responded very fast and they are to be commended for getting all the residents who were home at the time out of the house quickly and safely. We hope that, through the generosity of our fellow citizens, the families who have lost so much can be made whole again soon.
